WHO WE ARE

Zainab Sheikh Foundation is an Australian based charitable organisation working to improve the lives of vulnerable individuals and communities in Australia and Somalia. We raise funds and work with trusted local partners to deliver practical, culturally informed programs that respond to real community needs.

Our work is grounded in dignity, inclusion, and long-term impact. We believe meaningful change happens when communities are supported, informed, and empowered.

VISION

MISSION

For Somalia free from poverty, drought, and famine in which every person has access to quality of education, healthcare, clean water, sanitation, hygiene and a life of dignity.

To break the cycle of poverty in Somalia by enabling the poorest, the most vulnerable and their communities to live with dignity, build resilience and achieve true and lasting solutions to the challenges they face.

Drought Relief in Somalia: An estimated 75% people have been displaced due to server water shortages since November 2020 across the country. The Juba, Shabelle and Dawa river levels are very low for this time of the year. Erratic weather patterns are expected to continue, including an anticipated La Nina, which will aggravate the situation. Currently, there are at least 5.6 million people who are food insecure. Rainfall projections from March to June 2022 are expected to be below-average causing almost 2.7 million people to have acute food insecurity and 839,000 children acutely malnourished and all will be susceptible to drought-related diseases.

According to relief Web stated that Key highlights

  • Many parts of the country remained generally dry throughout the month of February 2022 leading to persistence of drought conditions.
  • Pasture and water are in extremely poor conditions and close to a complete depletion in key pastoral livelihoods across Somalia.
  • Severe water crises has resulted to increased water trucking and prices, which pastoral and agro pastoral households meet through increased debt accumulation and/or livestock sales.
  • Current drought conditions are expected to worsen until the start of Gu season rainfall in April.
